Obituary of Steve LeBlanc

Etienne (Steve) was born to Hercule and Josephine LeBlanc on August 16, 1928. He was the fourth child and first son of seven. He was born and raised on the family farm in Dormremy Saskatchewan. Steve was a busy child and as the stories are told he was a bit mischievous. Steve learned and loved to play the fiddle. Steve met Simone Detillieux on his sister Angel's farm and they married on June 16, 1959. They went to BC for their honeymoon and fell in love with it. They returned to Saskatchewan to work with family, but knew in their hearts that they would return. In 1964 they purchased Mt LeMoray Lodge, where they built a restaurant, garage, and a gas station with a towing and recovery business. Steve also never left his farming roots; he had a farm there as well. Steve, with his good friend Harold Thompson built most of the structures at Mt LeMoray by hand. In 1966 their son Bernard was born. Without having a hospital in Chetwynd, they raced to Dawson Creek to have him. On the way the engine in the truck was blown at East Pine. Steve asked the Post Mistress in Aras for a ride to Dawson. She was not keen on it, so he asked her how she felt about delivering Simone's baby. Needless to say she gave them a ride to the hospital, and fifteen minutes later Bernie was born. When the garage burnt in 1980, it was a sad day for Steve. He lost a lot of his prize possessions and many projects that he always had on the go. Shortly thereafter he took his first job with Peace Country Maintenance, where he worked proudly, for eight years. He retired from them at age 65, regretfully. It was at PCM that Steve met his good friend Bill Lamoureux; he thought so much of him that he introduced him to his niece Marilyn and they later married. Around 1985 Steve and Simone decided to close their family business and embark on other adventures. Those adventures led them back to Saskatchewan where they farmed with family. They traveled back and forth from BC during the farming season. In 1999 Bernard married Connie Folster. They started their family right away. Steve was a very proud papa. Papa, you've gone to greener pastures, but you will forever be in our hearts. Steve was preceded by his parents; Hurcule and Josephine LeBlanc, his brother; Cyprien LeBlanc and his sisters; Hortense Cottin, Angel Chicoine and Adelaide LeBlanc. He will be forever missed by his loving Wife, Simone, Son, Bernard and Connie and grandchildren Brianna, Robyn and Matthew. A Funeral Mass was held on Monday, February 16, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Fr. David John officiated. Interment was held in the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery. Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium.
