Obituary of Betty McLaren

Betty May Mclaren was born October 10th, 1933 in Athabasca Alberta. She passed away peacefullyat home with her family by her side, on February 24th, 2009 at the age of 75. Betty grew up in the Athabasca and Colinton area until the age of 16, when she then moved to Calgary to live with a sister. It was here in Calgary where she started her first job at a dry cleaner. She was also a nanny and a waitress. Betty met her soul mate Wilder Mclaren in 1955. They moved into the Chetwynd area in 1956, where Wilder worked in the sawmill industry and Betty cooked in camps. Later on they settled down with their 9 children on Dokkie Road. Wilder worked for Canfor and Betty went back to waiting tables for many years, working at Roundel, The Blue Sky, Yips, and the Dragon Palace. She was also a member in the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, for 44 years. Betty's family was always #1in her heart. She liked nothing better than having a houseful of kids, grandkids, family, and friends. She loved to have everyone around the table enjoying a huge meal she had prepared. Betty's hobbies included playing bingo with her bingo buddies, picking berries to make her famous strawberry shortcakes, and curling. Betty was Predeceased By her husband Wilder, her parents Harold and Ruby Wedge, Brothers Harry and Gerald, and Sisters Mavis, Mable, and Eunice. She leaves to Mourn; her sister June, her brothers Mark and David, stepsister Annie and step brother Les, her Children, Bev(Len), Brenda(Joe), Tommy(Joy), George(Diane), Debbie(Barry), Tammy(Robert), Robby, Timmy, Brent and her 24 Grandchildren, and 21 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild, and as well many nieces, nephews and friends. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the Chetwynd Baptist Church. Pastor Bill Evans officiated. Interment followed in the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Betty to the BC Children's Hospital Foundation, 938 West 28th Ave, Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 4H4. She will be missed by all whose hearts she has touched.
