Obituary of Walter Joseph Nichols

Walter Joseph Nichols was born on January 11, 1971 in Dawson Creek, B.C. He was the first of 4 children born to Joe and Brenda Nichols. Walter grew up in Chetwynd and attended Don Titus and Chetwynd Secondary Schools. Walter had a love of music and movies, an amazing sense of humour and an incredibly infectious smile. He was always able to get the cutest little dance partners. Walters younger years were spent on the family farm located off Jackfish Road. It was here that he learned to hunt and fish, how to skin a rabbit, clean a partridge, skin moose and deer and help with haying. This was the season he loved. Even after leaving the farm, he helped Frankie Campbell with haying. Walter thoroughly loved the outdoors. Later, when the family moved to town and the outdoor life wasn't so much fun anymore, he began new endeavours. He enrolled at Northern Lights College where he successfully completed courses in upgrading, first aid, H2S Alive and the written component of the Class 1 Driving Course. Two years ago, Walter was able to get his Class 5 drivers license, he was really proud of this accomplishment. Walter was always willing to help anyone in need, no matter how big or small the job may have been. He was always willing. Things didn't always come easy for Walter, most of the goals he set for himself, he accomplished through sheer determination. It might take him a few tries, but he never gave up on his dreams. He thrived in the face of adversity. The lesson Walter leaves with us is quite simple; Set a goal, Work at it, Never give up! Walter passed away on March 22, 2009 in Dawson Creek at the age of 38 years. A Funeral Service was held on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the Chetwynd Baptist Church. Pastor Bill Evans officiated. Interment followed in the Tuscoola Mountain Cemetery. Walter leaves to mourn his parents, Joe and Brenda Nichols, brother Jason (Darlene), sisters Jennifer (Murray) and Bianca (Jay) and their families, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends of all ages. Walter will be sadly missed by those whose lives he touched. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Walter to the BC Children's Hospital Foundation.
