Obituary of Dorothy Dagasso

Dorothy Dagasso was born to Freemont and Clara Nelson on February 16, 1932 in the new Hospital in Pouce Coupe, B.C. Her parents drove a 2-up sleigh from the South Dawson District mom loved to tell how they had to warm rocks in the fire to put in the sleigh to keep their feet warm on the cold drive to the Hospital. Her siblings were Robert, Harold, Carl, Lovell and Dora. Dorothy loved going to the one room school in South Dawson but had to quit and start working when she was 13. She had a lifelong love of learning, she finished her high school at night school in Dawson Creek. Later became a LPN at St. Josephs Hospital in Dawson Creek. The training she received at the hospital from the Sisters of Providence fit well with her upbringing. She married Reno Dagasso in 1950. Together they had three children; Renie born in 1951, Joseph born in 1953 and Daniel born 1968. Dorothy loved her family dearly and gave all that she had to show us that love. Dorothy enjoyed the outdoors whether she was farming, gardening hunting or fishing. She loved her greenhouse with her tomatoes, every year she would save the seeds from her favourite plants and keep them as treasures until the next February when she would plant them in cut off milk cartons to start them inside the house. The Seniors hall became very important in her life after the loss of her husband, she was able to reconnect with friends from years gone by and make so many new friends. Ice curling, floor curling, crib and socials gave her a new outlet and her face would just light up when she talked about all of the things that she was learning and experiencing. She enjoyed a very special relationship with Ernie Fredrickson from the late 1990's until his passing in 2006. Mom knew that the greatest adventure that a child could have was within their own imagination, when her new garage was being built she carefully collected all of the short scraps of 2x4's and 2x6's with the knowledge that to children these would form the basis of great adventures and building projects. Skills which today seem to be lost were important to her, she spent hours teaching the girls to knit and crochet hoping that someday they would pass these skills onto their children and Grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband; Reno, son; Joseph, granddaughter; Heidi, brothers; Lovell, Carl and Robert, sister; Dora & special friend, Ernie Fredrickson. She is survived by her children; Renie (Janice), Joseph & Daniel (Jane), grandchildren; Shawn (Tracy), Nickie, Loren, Crystal, Charmaine, Charlene, Gabrielle, Emily & Michael and great grandchildren; Dominic, Erica, Jessica, Chelsea & Emily. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 12:00 pm at the Notre Dame Catholic Church. Fr. Michael Anyasoro officiated, interment followed in the Brookside Cemetery. Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium, Dawson Creek, B.C.
