Obituary of Dagny Annie Anderson

Dagny Annie Anderson, nee Thorbergson, was born on April 18, 1917, to Enoch and Anna Thorbergson (Johansen), at Elbow Saskatchewan. When Dagny was 13, her family moved from Elbow to the Peace River Country. In 1936, mother Anna passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dawson Creek, with Dagny, 19, at her side. Dagny's twenties were spent working at a general store in Pouce Coupe and at the Dawson Creek Co-op. Dagny met and corresponded with sister-in-law, Veda's brother, John, a WW II Veteran. After the war they married in 1947, and in 1948 daughter Sylvia Carol was born. John was a miner, but preferred farming and took a Veteran's Land Act parcel of land. They loaded all their possessions in a five ton truck and returned to the Peace River Country. On October 19, 1970 her beloved husband John passes away suddenly from a heart attack and new life began for Dagny. She maintained her solid Christian faith and remained active in her church community. She learned to drive in her fifties (in spite of her tendency to fall asleep in vehicles) and happily chauffeured herself around town until she reached mid-eighties. She loved her house, flowers, garden and busied herself with needlework, crocheting, cooking, baking and even courses in writing. She also enjoyed making home renovations. After selling her farm, she ventured to Norway and England several times to visit family. In 1974 daughter Sylvia married Laurence Thompson from Birch River, Manitoba, and Dagny was very supportive and helpful until 1996 when Sylvia too became widow. Mother and daughter became inseparable, venturing out on road trips, camping, picnics, flights and day trips to Grande Prairie and Fort St. John, and visiting Thor, now in Alberta. When Dagny was no longer able to remain at her home in the care of Sylvia and Home Support, she became a permanent resident of the Pouce Coupe Care Home. Dagny passed away at the Dawson Creek Hospital, on July 4, 2009, at the age of 92. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 2:00 pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Reverend's David & Phylis Roch officiated, interment followed in the Brookside Cemetery. Dagny is predeceased by Mother Anna, father Enoch; husband John Anderson, brothers Thorberg Sr., John, Christopher, Einar, Olaf and sister Agnes and half sister Caroline, and nephews Roger, Lee and Garry Thorbergson. She is survived by her daughter Sylvia, Brother Thor, sister-in-law Veda Thorbergson; and many nieces and nephews, including David and Kathy Thorbergson, Betty and Randy Mathias, Susan and Bernie Cleary, Lauria and Bill White, Dennis and Joyce Thobergson, Edward Thorbergson, Jean and Joe Braz; grandchildren and great-grandchildren of sister Anges, and several other great nieces and nephews. Dagny was a treasure to everyone who knew her and her family and friends will miss her deeply. Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium, Dawson Creek, B.C.
